Founded in 2022, our mission is to educate young people about the homelessness epidemic in a creative way. During the knitting workshops, participants learn about the impacts of homelessness while developing a new and fun skill of knitting. They are able to harness the combined benefits of a new hobby while contributing to their community. Scarves are then donated to homeless shelters through our partners. About Knit Knot Knoop

Knit Knot Knoop didn’t begin as a knitting project. For her Mitzvah project for her Bat Mitzvah, Kate first wanted to do something that allowed her to share her love of baking with others. She started baking cookies and passing out the treats she had made to those experiencing homelessness in her community. Soon after it began, Kate’s project had to be put on hold because of an injury, she broke her leg. Unable to move around the kitchen to bake she looked for a new hobby that would allow her to rest her leg. Her grandmother suggested that she teach Kate how to knit. Kate loved the simplicity and meditativeness of knitting scarves and suddenly she had more than she could wear. She found herself teaching her friends to knit and loved how she created community activity with her friends and family.

She realized she could restart her project and use her newfound skill to share warmth with the same people with whom she had shared sweetness with her cookies. However, this time she wanted to include her knitting community and spread her love of knitting beyond her circle of people. Together, they have brought warmth to countless people who need it while sharing the joy of knitting with a broad community of crafters.
